Youth Activities Project
YAP, the Youth Activities Project ran for many years and served over 25,000 young people.
It started with trainees Stephen Mabula and Teboho Tlali. They trained for a year in the UK and returned to set up the project. They learnt to build fibreglass canoes.
The purpose was to work with young people through outdoor activities and camps. It provided a unique method of teaching and training. Those involved were village youth groups, schools, church-based groups and NGO’s.
They taught young people all sorts of outdoor activities like climbing and abseiling, swimming canoeing and archery.
It served over 25,000 young people.
YAP took off because it did not differentiate and was great leveller.
Before the Link had the land, local projects took place in schools.
On the road to Ty two miles from Ha Mohatlane there was a 35’ boulder used for climbing.
They canoed on the Senqu river and Maqalika.
After the Link obtained the site in Maseru a boatshouse was built. Water sports took place on the lake. A climbing wall and abseiling tower were built.
